Mountain Mists: Appalachian Folkways of West Virginia Dr. Carol Ann Gillespie (Author)

The early morning sun slowly burns off the drifting grey feathers of mist in the Appalachian Mountains. The quiet landscape slowy throws off the dark comforter of night. The people of the mountains go about their daily lives, largely unaware how closely their habits, customs, and beliefs mirror those of their mountain ancestors. Captured within these pages are folkways and customs of the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia. Life and death, birth and burial, sickness and health, premonitions and superstitions are all recounted here for you to read and enjoy before they, too, burn-off and disappear.

Here is just one review from a customer at Amazon:

I read this book shortly after its publication in the fall. As I sat outside reading on my patio on a cool October day I couldn't help but feel that this book encompasses the spirit of autumn. From tales of ghost sitings and famiy reunions held in cemeteries to superstitions that to this day still thrive among certain groups. Furthermore, I just really enjoyed this book and learning about the rich traditions and customs of the people of West Virginia.
