The buy local food trend continues to grow and expand across the nation. The reasons range from:
  • Supporting local farmers and helping the local economy, to simply
  • Wanting fresher more nutritious foods with fewer pesticides and chemicals.
The West Virginia Department of Agriculture's statistics confirm that this trend is growing in the state at a significant rate. The value of agricultural products sold directly to consumers rose 286% between 1997 and 2007 ($2.7 million to over $7 million).
