Region: Mid Ohio Valley
Region
Established: 1856
County Seat: Grantsville
Historic Fact: Calhoun County
was once controlled by the Iroquois Confederation (including the Cayugas,
Mohawks, Oneidas,
Onondagas, and Seneca Indians and, later, the Tuscaroras Indians). The Iroquois
did not settle in the county, instead, used it as a hunting ground and buffer
against the unfriendly French in the Ohio
Valley and the Cherokee
Indians.
